Continuation...
It was a great summer break. We met almost everyday and time seemed to fly. The next year started in no time and was back to the hostel. The first day in hostel, all guys just killed time pulling each other and talking about our summer break. All my friends were curious to know what is going on between me and the junior girl.
It was bed time already and still all my friends insisted on hearing my story. I got strangely excited and started telling the story. I started with the kiss in the coffee shop and then the train to home. I added on with the bus trip we took to Mahabalipuram.
I convinced her in going to Mahabalipuram during our holidays. We got into the bus and caught the corner last seat of the bus. She was a bit nervous as she was scared about us being caught red handed. I assured her several times and the bus left the city after 30 minutes and she relaxed a bit. We were not talking for a long time and staring at the snoring passenger before us without interest. Both of us were waiting for the first move.
The bus curved to the left and even though it was not so steep, I tilted to my left and our hands met. That charged us up real quick with the love current being flowing so strong. She moved her hand a bit more to touch mine and I was trying to do the same. My heart started pumping more blood than necessary. Why does it feel like the first time always? She rested her head on my shoulder holding my hand tight and closed her eyes. The conductor gave me some odd looks. I nudged those anyways.
I had seen Mahabalipuram so many times that I can make a good guide for the tourists. I took her around all the rocks and the sculptures. I don’t know what I am doing analyzing each and every sculptor out there. I took her to the shore temple and it was a sunny day, so not many heads on the beach and the shore temple was almost empty. We had to cross a dark passage to get to the shore temple. In mid way, I turned towards her and our lips met in a flash. We made sure no one is watching and the kiss started like a wild fire. I could see her eyes closed and cheeks turning pink.
‘Hello.’ I squeaked
‘Don’t you have any value for our relationship? It’s all a joke for u.’ She fired.
‘I…….’
‘I know what you are unto now. I don’t want to talk to you anymore.’
‘But wait. It was jus a …….’ I tried to justify but couldn’t come up with right words.
‘It was just a what? I know what it is; you never loved me at all. I was just imagining foolishly all this time. I have learnt my lesson. I am done with you.’ She started sobbing.
‘I can explain. Meet me in the department lab tomorrow.’ I pleaded.
She started sobbing heavily and the phone went dead. That is when I hated the technology for growing up so fast.
I saw her in the department next day talking to her friends. I could see her long face and felt really bad for what had happened. Her friend gave me an unfriendly look, came to me and said,
‘She won’t be talking to you anymore…..’ She continued talking things which I didn’t want to hear and my eyes were fixed on her all the time. She started sobbing again with her friends trying to console her giving me unfriendly looks.
I turned my gaze to her friend, ‘Tell her, I will miss her a lot.’ And turned and left the department.
I couldn’t forget her and repented for what ever happened that day and wished I had a time machine to go back and set things right. But it was too late even for the time machine to take me back. It’s over…
The timing was right. Our class tour to Kanyakumari and Kerala was organized. Last year we went on a one day trip to Ooty. This time it was a two days trip and all were pretty excited about it.
We decided to travel in the night and reach Kanyakumari in the early hours to catch the sunrise.
We didn’t sleep the whole travel and our chatting and singing sessions were going on.
At around 4 ‘O clock every one slept and my phone vibrated. I thought its some spam text message and ignored it.
After 2 mins, my mobile vibrated again. This time I checked the messages. It was from an unknown number and the first message said ‘I LUV U’.
I opened the next message; it said ‘Hey sleepy head… I said I LUV U’.
I checked the bus and found everyone sleeping and then I thought it’s a prank set by one of my friend and ignored the messages.
We freshened up and went to check out the sunrise and as usual it was a cloudy day and all we could do is to take some pics and get back.
I usually never carry a camera as I like being in front of it rather than behind it taking the pictures.
We had split in batches and started exploring the shore. We were posing so intensely and I sensed a flash from the other side and turned to find nobody there.
We continued our trip most of the time traveling as we wanted to cover larger ground. Our lunch timing passed and finally located a kerala restaurant. It was a bad restaurant with all the broken chairs and tables. He served us some fat rice and watery juice and curry. We had no other option than eating them. While eating my mobile vibrated again. I continued eating ignoring it and my mobile vibrated atleast 3 – 4 times after that. I went to wash my hands and checked my mobile.
There were 6 messages from the Z. I had stored the unknown number as Z.
1st Message: ‘Hey don’t eat this food.’
2nd Message: ‘The food is bad. Please don’t eat.’
3rd Message: ’U are so hungry?’
4th Message: ‘U eat how much ever u want. Hogger!!!’
5th Message: ‘Finally U gave up. :=)))’
6th Message: ‘I LUV U’
I turned and checked all the tables to find my whole class eating their lunch and couldn’t find a girl with a mobile. I didn’t want to fall for this prank and deleted all the messages.
We had reserved some hotel rooms and it was past midnight by the time we reached. All of us slumped on the bed by the time we reached.
We were 5-6 guys sleeping on a double bed. Nobody had the patience to go to their rooms and slumped on the same bed. It’s our hostel attitude, won’t go that easily. :=)))
The hotel intercom started buzzing at around 5 ‘O clock. I was sleeping close to it and it was ringing in my ears. I took the phone and struggled and said,
‘Heeeeelllllooooooo’
‘Hey sleepy head… wake up…’ the voice said
I woke up in a shock and asked, ’who is this? Whom do u want?’
I could hear her smiling, ‘what do u think, I can’t recognize
I was pretty much sure by now that someone in this room wants to make a fool out of me taking help of our class girls.
Sudden adrenaline pumped up and I said, ‘Don’t u have any other better job to do? I wont fall for all these pranks.’ and slashed the receiver.
I was pretty much impressed with me not falling for this prank.
I woke up in the morning and checked my mobile and there were no messages and confirmed that the prank is all over.
After a week, on my way to our college mess, my mobile vibrated.
I checked the mobile and it was from Z
It said, ‘Hey. I am not a prankster. I was not fooling around. I like u very much. I like whatever u do. I have been trying to tell this for a long time. I
Knowing all my friends, I know they don’t give up that easily. I sent the message to trash.
I decided I will ask all my friends to find out whose number is it.
None of my friends had that number stored in their mobile.
Even though I was pretty sure it was a prank, somewhere something is not falling into its place.
After two days, I got another message from Z
It said, ‘Hi… What r u doin???’
I called back and she was disconnecting.
I tried two or three more times and every time it was rejected.
My mobile vibrated. ‘Hey. Y r u in such a hurry? U reply to my messages first.’
I replied back. ‘who r u? What do u want?’
‘UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU’ was the reply.
Even though it was a bit irritating, I started liking it.
She started texting me regularly… My mobile started craving for more battery charge… :=)))
It continued for a long time. Thanks for the service providers who had this students pack with unlimited texting free. My dad would have gone bankrupt paying the bills. :=)))
Valentine’s Day came at the right time. We decided we will meet at the botanical garden next to our college. Our friends don’t prefer that place and we could get some privacy. It’s been a month since I went home and no laundry was done for a long time. I went to my next room and picked up a decently clean shirt and walked out. One of my friends met me in the middle and asked me to join for a coffee. I didn’t want to tell him where I was going and thought I would leave soon.
My mobile vibrated and the message said, ‘what r u doing in the coffee shop? Didn’t we agree on a plan?’
I searched to see if I can catch her on the road, but it’s a bit difficult to sort out.
I cooked up some story to my friend and left the coffee place and after gaining a good distance, I literally started running.
I entered the botanical garden and tried to call her. She was rejecting my calls. It was agreed the previous day that she would be wearing a white churidar and free flowing hair. There were some serious joggers and oldies in the park and started searching every nook and corner. My mobile vibrated and it said, ‘Turn Back’
We have been together all this time, but I never realized she is the one.
She looked like a fairy without the magic wand and the transparent wings.
She shook me and asked, ‘what happened? U didn’t expect me?’
‘I…. I d..i..d..n…t……’ was all I could say.
She started talking about when she first met me and when all this started and stuffs like that. But all this time I was just looking at her and the time flew as if we deported to a different time zone. She checked the time and she was already running late on the hostel closing time for girls. She said she will call me and ran away. I was still sitting there on the bench letting the realization to sink in.
She came back and whispered in my ears, ‘I LUV U’ and ran towards the exit giggling.
I walked back to the hostel room and she called me.
Days became seconds and soon our semester exams were around. Before even we could think of, the year got over and our placement preparations started. The whole third year stayed back to prepare for the placements as the companies will be around for recruitment in a month.
